Landmarks etc. in photo of the Abel Tasman National Park from Tahunanui.

1 Abel Tasman National Park. Over half of the hills that you see here are inside the National Park.
2 The sands of Tahunanui Beach taken at near low tide. It is these sands which give the area its name (Tahunanui roughly translates from the Maori language as 'shifting sands'). At high tide, these sand bars are completely covered - see photo below. The main channel clearly visible cutting through the sand bars is one of the main channels for the tidal esturies at the southern end of Tasman Bay and the currents through here can be swift making it dangerous for swimmers, but the rest of the beach (from the right hand edge of the photo) is a very safe swimming beach for the whole family.
3 Takaka Hill. This is where the road to Golden Bay crosses the hills. From this angle, Motueka is is on the coast just below here.
