Photo of Motueka

This photo was taken form the air on a cloudy day while flying to Auckland in late October 2000.
Don't despair about the weather - when I arrived in Auckland about an hour and a quarter later, it was considerably colder, with a very strong wind blowing (calm, hot, and sunny in Nelson).
This photo will be replaced when I get another chance to fly to Auckland, and the weather is clearer, and I am sitting on the right side of the plane, clear of the engines for a similar shot.

Landmarks etc. in photo of Motueka

1 The Motueka Valley which runs up past the foot of Mt. Arthur to Tapawera and on to Murchison.
2 Port Motueka. This is the area where I was raised. The port today is the headquarters for Talley's Fisheries, one of the country's largest family owned and operated fishing businesses - they also process frozen vegetables and make ice cream here.
3 Motueka.
4 The mouth of the Motueka River. Riwaka is just peping out from under the clouds just above the number 4.
