Coming Events

There are a number of events which happen in Nelson at around the same time each year. Some of them are:

Nelson School of Music Winter Festival

Nelson's annual Winter Music Festival runs for two weeks and is full of music, comedy and theatre, and features local, national, and international artists. The Festival is organised by, and centred on, Nelson's historic School of Music.
The Nelson School of Music Winter Festival normally happens during July.

Arts Festival

This Arts Festival concentrates on sculpture and the performing arts was held as a lead up to the Wearable Arts Awards but now the Wearable Arts Awards are held in Wellingotn, the Arts Festival continues. This usually lasts for a week or two during September.

International Film Festival

The International Film Festival tours New Zealand each year during winter, and Nelson is one of the dozen or so centres it visits.
The time the Festival arrives in Nelson varies from year to year, usually between July and September.

Italian Film Festival

For fans of Italian films, both old and new, there is now a regular Festival of Italian Films held in the Suter Cinema, normaly during the summer holiday period.

Isel In Bloom

The annual celebration of Spring, held in Isel Park, and the grounds of historic Isel House, Stoke.
Isel in Bloom is usually held on the first or second Sunday in October.

A & P Assn. Annual Show

The one time each year when the country comes to the town to show the townies what life in the country is like, and the town goes to the country to sell the farmers the latest in farm machinery etc. Complete with stock and produce competitions, horse riding cometitions, and all the fun of side-show-alley among the trade displays. Two days of family fun and activity at Richmond Park every November.

Summer Time Festival

Every summer, Nelson celebrates the season with a wide range of activities designed for the holiday period and the numerous visitors who come here at this time of the year. The Festival normally starts late November/early December and goes on until late February. Normally finishes with a night of Opera in the Park, culminating in a massive fireworks display.
